Download .dmg Files of Popular Software for Mac and Windows

This starting happenin to me soon after purchasing my MBA: When I try to download a .dmg file with Safari or even on Chrome . No file is downloaded.it open up in new tab and the black grey page jst freezes and hangs.

What sort of third-party software do you have installed, if any? I know there are apps like GlimmerBlocker or LittleSnitch that can selectively block network traffic. Highly unusual to block .dmgs though.

Download .dmg

just go in Finder on your mac =>click on GO => then Computer => you will find Macintosh HD click on it => go in Library => check out for Internet Plug-Ins => in that you will find speed download booster plugins just delete it and restart your mac....

I have this same problems and have tried all the solutions offered here, but just the same, still not able to download .dmg files. Safari just gives me the link and a black screen. I did not have any speed downloader installed, or igetter either. Any other solutions known for this problem ? Thanks

When I try to download a .dmg file from a website, instead of the file going to my download folder - I get a new tab opening with a bunch of code/characters. This does not happen with Safari, Chrome or Internet Explorer.

Traditionally software has been distributed on physical media, like CD-ROMs, which are read-only and ensure the software on them is as the developer intended. These days, with broadband Internet, software can be more readily downloaded, but developers still have to ensure the software is received intact. If they just allow the software to be downloaded as is, then corruption may happen to it in transit; it can also be tampered with as it resides on the developer's servers.

Unfortunately, the move to regularly using DMG files for distributing applications has some people a bit confused on how to use them. I've also seen instances where people have populated their Applications folder with DMG files they have downloaded, and after a days' use they may have numerous disk images mounted on their system from which they are launching their various programs.

My question is this: If I download a malicious .dmg file, but don't click on it to install it, am I safe? Or is there a possibility that by simply visiting a website that auto-installs a .dmg file, I could have compromised my security?

You are safe. The .dmg (disk image) file is not the actual installer. The .dmg must be double-clicked to install it before it can run any code. Even if you double-click it (so long as you leave the security feature Gatekeeper on), you must approve both the downloaded from the web alert and the authentication prompt to actually permit the install to proceed.

For future reference: A .dmg file is a disk image file. Even when you open a .dmg, it will only mount the disk. This means that it opens up a little folder on your desktop kinda like when you put a CD in your mac. You can't edit the folder, you can only eject it. To eject the mounted disk, just click the little eject button, or drag it to the trash can.

You can download source code packages and Windows installers which are automatically created each time code is checked into the source code repository. These packages are available in the automated build section of our download area.

Depends on which browser you're using but you likely have safari settings configured to save all downloads to desktop. You can change this behavior in the preferences menu and have it save everything to downloads or simply ask you where you want to save.

As for the .dmg files, after installing, you want to "eject" the dmg file by going into finder, left sidebar, scroll down, and clicking the eject icon next to the dmg file you see mounted there. Then you can simply trash the dmg file or move it to another folder if you want to keep it.

Using Software Update is faster and easier than upgrading by other methods, and it might require less storage space to download and install the upgrade. Software Update shows only upgrades that are compatible with your Mac.

If the macOS that you want isn't compatible with your Mac or the currently installed macOS, the installer will let you know, and the App Store might prevent you from downloading it. For example, it might dim the Get button, say that the macOS is not compatible with this device, or say that the requested version of macOS is not available.

DMG Extractor is a software that extracts DMG files from macOS to a format that is compatible to be read in Windows. macOS uses DMG files to verify that the downloaded files are secure and not tampered with. These are file containers for MacOS files and require a third-party extraction tool like DMG Extractor to be read in Windows.

DMG Extractor, like the name suggests, is a tool to extract DMG files for Windows. This is a read-only program, available for free or a premium version, that cannot create a DMG file but only reads it for Windows. It can be download and installed on Windows devices, and is ready to use by simply importing the DMG files. The interface is simple and fuss-free, and extracting DMG files is the only functionality it has.

One might argue that the functionality of DMG extractor is a niche for the purpose it serves, and does not complicate too many tasks in one program, however, it is mostly the case that people prefer to download a single program for many functions, rather than multiple programs to perform each function. This is where DMG extractor is vastly limited. In all probability, simple extraction programs like 7-Zip will be able to open the DMG files, but if it does not, that is when one needs to use DMG Extractor. The same is not true for the other way round, as there is very little DMG Extractor can do that 7-Zip cannot or Universal Extractor or TransMac cannot.

Action required to continue auto-updates on Receiver. if you are experiencing an error message when checking for updates described in article CTX234657 ( ), please download the Receiver Auto Update Tool above. Explanation: A new security certificate was recently released to further enhance the security of Citrix Receiver. However, this certificate disables Receiver Auto-Update functionality. It is important that you download and install the recently released Receiver Auto Update Tool to restore Receiver Update functionality.

In most cases, the downloaded dmg file is actually corrupt or had an error downloading. If possible, try downloading the dmg again, turning off any download assistant plug-ins you may have. You can try downloading the file in a different browser as well. Or if you don't need to be logged in to the site to download the file and you want to be fancy, you can try curl -O url in Terminal to download the file. (There's an example of that in my screenshot below.)

One footnote for people having issues opening ISO files. Another new discovery is that "hybrid" ISO files (think Linux installers) don't open correctly automatically and need to be manually attached and mounted (this is NOT advice for normal .dmg files.) This article will show you where and how to download Xcode from Apple as .xip or .dmg files, as well as from the Mac App Store, and also show you where to download old versions of Xcode from, including direct links to old Xcode versions hosted by Apple.

You will need an Apple ID and an Apple Developer account to be able to access these Xcode downloads. The Apple Developer account can be the free level account, it does not need to be a paid level Apple Developer login to simply access the downloads.

Older versions of Xcode (pre Xcode 8, including all Xcode 7.x releases and before) are available to download as .dmg disk image files, which can be opened directly in the Finder with the Mac OS built-in disk image utility.

Apple keeps download links available for basically all versions of Xcode, this is convenient for many reasons, including being able to download an older Xcode version that is compatible with an older Mac OS system software release.

You can find those download links from or you can use the direct download links pointing to Xcode as .xip or .dmg available on Apple servers below, you must be logged into an Apple ID with Apple Developer access to download these releases from Apple servers:

The Apple downloads and Apple Developer downloads pages are convenient to track down and access not only older versions of Xcode, but also older updates to MacOS and Mac OS X (including complete downloads of Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Leopard), various security updates, firmware patches, Safari updates, iTunes versions, various versions of other Apple software, and in many cases downloading older Mac software in general.

FastDMG is a free macOS utility to mount .dmg and other disk images quickly, without any unneeded nonsense. It is a very fast and reliable alternative to Apple's annoying DiskImageMounter. And yes, that icon is a reference to After Dark's Flying Toasters screensaver on Classic MacOS.

A DMG file is a mountable disk image primarily used to distribute software to the macOS operating system. Mac users typically download the file from the Internet and then double-click it to install an application on their computer.

DMG files are Mac-specific and not intended for use in Windows. Therefore, if you download a DMG file from a website, check the site for a Windows version of the software (most likely distributed as an .EXE or .MSI file). 2ff7e9595c
